OK, I am not a natural born sales guy. In fact I’ve never really sold anything before starting Senor Sangria. Unless you count the time I worked at the Gap but I was mostly there for the discount.
Anyway, last week I had my most unique and quickest sales experience thus far. I was getting a magnetic sign made for our deliver van. While waiting to pay for the sign I got into a discussion with the owner of the printing place about our business. It turns out that he had been in the liquor/wine business for a long time. He ends up giving me a contact of the guy who runs the Spirits Unlimited in Red Bank NJ. He told me if our product is good quality this guy will support us.
The following day I make my way down to Red Bank. I walk into the Spirits Unlimited and ask for John. He’s as excited to meet me, as he would be for any other sales rep trying to peddle their wares. Now I have to tell you I was nervous. Normally I carry ice with me when we have retailers taste our product. Unfortunately I was in a hurry that day and forgot the ice. So John and his team tasted our sangria at room temperature. I looked at his team as they tasted the sangria and couldn’t figure out if they liked it. They all went in for a 2nd taste and then that’s when I saw a smile break out. The team seemed to truly enjoy the product even at room temperature… That was awesome! The next thing I know John is placing an order with me.
Now all this happened in the span of 10 minutes. The following day I’m back down in Red Bank making the delivery. John, thanks so much for your support. We are looking forward to working with you and making this product a success!
